Story:
Ten years before the events of the original Kingdom Hearts, at terrible evil endangers the state of the worlds, and heroes of the Keyblade must undertake a journey to vanquish this threat. One day, a man named Master Xehanort and his dark cohort suddenly vanished. Another master of the Keyblade saw the disappearance of these two as a sign of danger to come, and therefore sent his apprentices, Terra, Aqua, and Ven, to investigate this matter. Hence they venture out exploring many worlds, and facing off with a variety of villains and mysterious creatures called Unbirths. Master Xehanort though is plotting something sinister behind the scene. Thus Terra, Aqua, and Ven pursue Master Xehanort and his apprentice in order to put a stop to their plans before it is too late.

Characters:
The main cast of characters includes three Keyblade wielders named Terra, Aqua, and Ven. Terra seems to take the role as leader of the group. He makes his goals his highest priority, which sometimes causes conflict among the group. Terra also appears to possess a small resemblance to the Xehanort of the current installments. Aqua is a serious character with a steady mind. She often concerns herself though with the well being of her companions. Ven is a very amiable person. He is able to make friends with the dwellers of the worlds he visits and is the type to blend into a world naturally. The name Ven though is not his true name. Ven’s real name is supposedly a bit longer. Ven also strongly resembles Roxas, and is said to have a special connection to Sora. The main antagonists of the story include Master Xehanort and his dark cohort. Master Xehanort seems to be an old man with incredible strength. One of his goals is to rule the world, but his other sinister intentions have yet to be revealed. His cohort is shrouded in mystery. Being the apprentice though makes him dangerously menacing just like his master. Another antagonist is Maleficent, who makes her debut as a bringer of discord in Birth By Sleep. Someone informs her about the existence of Kingdom Hearts and the Princesses of Heart, and thus her desire to collect the princesses is born. Thus far though, Maleficent has only been seen meddling in the Enchanted Dominion. Another important character is the master of Terra, Aqua, and Ven, but not much is currently known about him, except for the fact that he has not appeared in any previous Kingdom Hearts games. He is also the one who sent his apprentices to investigate the disappearance of Master Xehanort and his cohort. Mickey is also featured in the game as an apprentice training under Master Yensid. Donald and Goofy have also been seen observing Mickey’s training. A few Princesses of Heart have also been featured, such as Aurora, Snow White, and Cinderella. Other known characters include the typical cast of Disney characters found in their respective worlds. Sora and Riku have also been shown in a scene on Destiny Islands.

Worlds:
Known worlds in the game consist of Destiny Islands, Radiant Garden, Olympus Coliseum, Enchanted Dominion, Castle of Dreams, and Twilight Town (Yensid’s Tower). A world based off Walt Disney’s Snow White has also been featured, though its official name is not yet known. An unknown world with a vast wasteland has also been featured in several scenes.

Gameplay:
Birth By Sleep features three playable scenarios that follow the story through Terra, Aqua, and Ven. Each scenario features a different view of the story and a different style of gameplay. Terra’s gameplay is based upon more power-based combat. Aqua’s gameplay is based primarily on magic-based attacks. Ven’s gameplay is based around combos and speed. The gameplay also includes a first person targeting mode called “Focus” mode, in which each character has special attacks modes that allow them to perform different magic-based attacks against targeted enemies. Birth By Sleep also features an innovative growth system for leveling up and enhancing a character’s strength and abilities. Developers also plan to add multiplayer components to the game.
